Subject

The subject of this year's symposium, "partnership between non-profit organizations and private businesses", is taken from the fact that a growing number of Korean businesses have become interested in making donations and participating in social contribution activities since the 1990s.  They began to perceive that establishment of a positive relationship with non-profit organizations would be a productive "investment in social values". Non-profit organizations, too, began to realize that they need close cooperation with businesses to solve social problems that are getting ever more complex and difficult to handle.  They believe that such cooperation between the two sectors is essential to generate good results in their efforts to get professional knowledge and skills as well as managerial efficiency.  The symposium will focus on the process in which international non-profit organizations successfully achieve their aim of looking after public interests via partnership with private businesses. The comparison between the cases in Korea, US and Japan is expected to provide significant lessons applicable to the NGOs as well as to the businesses of Korea.
